PGG Wrightson Seeds is the largest proprietary seed company in the Southern Hemisphere, servicing New Zealand and global markets. We cover every stage of the seed journey – from research and development through to production, supply, and on-farm support.

We’re looking for a Graduate Production Research Agronomist to join our Production team at the Kimihia Research Centre. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to apply science in a practical setting and help shape the future of seed production.

About the role

Working as part of a supportive research team, you’ll contribute to field-based trials that explore agronomy practices to optimise seed yield and quality. You’ll also support new product development by evaluating agrichemicals, contribute to industry field days, and provide technical insights to growers and colleagues.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Designing, conducting, and analysing field trials using best scientific practice.
  • Assessing new agrichemical products for their potential in PGW Seeds contracted crops.
  • Sharing findings with growers, agronomy reps, and industry stakeholders through meetings, workshops, and field days.
  • Supporting the commercialisation of products and practices that deliver better outcomes for growers.

What we’re looking for

  • A tertiary qualification in plant science, agriculture, or a related field (essential).
  • Knowledge of agronomy and plant science, with a strong interest in applied research.
  • Strong planning, organising, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, build relationships, and work well in a team.
  • Good computer skills, including Excel and statistical analysis.
  • A willingness to work extended hours when required to meet seasonal demands.

Why join us?

  • Be part of a science-led agricultural company with global reach.
  • Apply your learning in real-world trials that impact seed production across New Zealand.
  • Gain exposure to both research and commercial environments.
  • Work alongside experienced researchers and industry experts in a collaborative team culture.
  • Competitive salary (commensurate with experience) plus life, health, and income protection insurance.

At PGG Wrightson Seeds, part of the DLF group, our purpose is to enrich land, life, and people through seeds and science. Guided by our “Connecting to Grow” strategy, we’re committed to fostering great careers for great people.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone ready to start their career in agricultural research and make a meaningful contribution to New Zealand’s seed industry.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you – please apply with your CV and cover letter.
