Agronomist - Forage

About the role

PGG Wrightson Seeds' is seeking an experienced Forage Agronomist to join their team in Ruakura, Waikato. This full-time role is responsible for providing expert agronomic advice and support to customers on a wide range of forage and pasture-related matters. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in helping farmers and growers across the region maximise the productivity and profitability of their forage and pasture-based operations.

The Forage Agronomist is an important position in our product development pipeline. The role is primarily field based and is responsible for planning, implementation and reporting Stage I and Stage II forage trials, statistical analysis and scientific report writing.   

What you'll be doing

• Assisting with forage breeding programs, farm skills (spraying, drilling etc.) 
• Providing expert technical advice and recommendations to customers on forage and pasture selection, establishment, management and improvement
• Conducting field trials and demonstrations to showcase the latest pasture and forage technologies
• Collaborating with the sales team to identify new business opportunities and support customer relationships
• Preparing detailed reports, technical articles and other communications to share agronomic insights and best practices
• Staying up-to-date with industry trends, research and innovations to ensure customers receive cutting-edge advice
• Representing the company at industry events, field days and other stakeholder engagements

What we're looking for

• Tertiary qualification in agriculture, agronomy or a related discipline
• Experience with the use of statistical programs i.e. Genstat, R
• Some experience as an agronomist, ideally within the farming, seeds or agricultural services industries would be beneficial
• Comprehensive knowledge of forage and pasture species, agronomy, soil science and livestock production systems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical information into practical advice 
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and project management capabilities
• A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regularly within the Waikato region
