PGG Wrightson Seeds established Corson Maize in 2011 to bring maize hybrids with yield and quality benefits to New Zealand growers. Our Gisborne site at Matawhero plays a critical role in producing and processing maize seed for domestic and international markets, including sweetcorn seed for global vegetable companies.

We are now seeking a motivated and hands-on Assistant Site Manager to join our Gisborne team. This is a full-time, permanent role offering a great opportunity to build leadership capability while supporting the day-to-day operation of a modern seed processing site.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daily planning and coordination of site operations, including seed intake, cleaning, treating, bagging, and dispatch
  • Support the leadership, development, and performance of permanent and seasonal site staff
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety, quality control, and compliance
  • Monitor inventory and transactional data using systems such as Navision, Power BI, and Anaplan
  • Work with internal teams and external partners to meet production and delivery targets
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across operations and customer service

 

Skills & Experience

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a seed, grain, logistics, manufacturing, or agricultural production environment
  • Proven team leadership experience, ideally involving seasonal or casual staff
  • Strong understanding of health and safety practices and operational compliance
  • Familiarity with business systems such as Navision, Power BI, and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain) and knowledge of seed processing (advantageous)
